Position Description
Be at the forefront of change and become a part of the innovative and forward-thinking academic team in the University of Michigan-Flint’s Public Health & Health Sciences Department in the rapidly expanding College of Health Sciences! We are seeking applications for a 12-month clinical assistant professor that will serve as the Program Director of the Bachelor of Science Respiratory Therapy Program. This hybrid position is 70% instructional and 30% administrative and requires regular presence on campus. The desired start date for this position is Winter 2025.

Currently, faculty in the College of Health Sciences are required to report to campus minimally two days a week. This is subject to change based on program, department, college or university needs.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Program Director (30% effort)
Provide leadership, administration and management for the Bachelor of Science Respiratory Therapy (BSRT) Program which includes:
  • Ensure program’s quality, compliance with accreditation standards
  • Curriculum development
  • Ensure professional growth of faculty and students
  • Maintain academic excellence
  • Promote student success
  • Ensure the program aligns with the latest industry standards and healthcare trends
  • Develop and implement student recruitment plan
 Assistant Clinical Professor (70% effort)
Teaching
Includes teaching in the Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy program.
Scholarship
Engages in scholarship according to the College of Health Sciences scholarship requirements for Clinical-track Faculty.
Service
All CHS faculty members are expected to provide service to the University, college, department, profession and the community. Consistent with the mission of CHS and the University, professional service contributions to the Flint and regional community are valued as well as national and international contributions.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related healthcare field
  • Active credentials as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Current state licensure to practice Respiratory Therapy
  • 3 years experience as a practicing respiratory therapist
  • 3 years of teaching experience in a Respiratory Therapy Program
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and instruct undergraduate students
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion  
 Desired Qualifications:
  • Previous administrative or leadership experience in an academic program in healthcare management or healthcare education
  • Experience with Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) accreditation processes

Modes of Work:
Hybrid:
The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements. Traveling to internship sites will be necessary as indicated to facilitate clinical site visits.
